Our beloved William "Butchie" Stokes departed this life on Friday May 13, 2022 at the young age of 68. He was born in New Brunswick, NJ on May 5th,1954 to Mattie and Mack Stokes. Butchie, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was a lifelong resident of New Brunswick, NJ where he attended New Brunswick public schools and worked countless years for the Department of Sanitation in Piscataway, NJ.
Anyone who knew Butchie was touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament. He was truly a peacemaker and was always a source of positivity, even when asking to hold $5!
Butchie's life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were Blessed to be touched by him understand that his existence and the imprint he left on our hearts-by simply just being presence, always showing up...no house or home was too far, if there was food and family, Butchie was there, even if he had to walk...and we all know that walk- by far exceeds the quantity of time that he stayed here.
He loved fiercely and deeply and we take comfort in knowing that Butchie is now at peace surrounded by light.
He is predeceased by parents Mattie Stokes & Mack Stokes, daughter Shimaya Williams, brothers Dennis Tyrone Stokes & James Earl Stokes and sisters Dorothy Lige and Marjorie Stokes.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of more than 34 years, Wanda Stokes of New Brunswick NJ, children Roshanda Williams and Jamar Williams, both of North Brunswick, NJ. Grandchildren Taahira, Tamir, Jeremiah, Selina, Shania, Siy’aad, Devon, Serenity, Shimaya, Camar, Da’Vionne, Kamryn, Mekhi and Messiah, siblings Peggy Boswell (Tommy) of Marlton, NJ, Mattie Lowery of South Brunswick, NJ, Joann Stokes of North Brunswick, NJ, Barbara Jean Stokes Watson of Jacksonville, Fl, and Patricia Stokes- Kane of Blackwood, NJ and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
