Susan Greenstone

Susan (Rand) Greenstone, 79, of East Brunswick, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Susan was born in Newark and raised in Irvington. 

 

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Michael Greenstone, who remained by her side until her final days.  In addition, she is survived by her 2 daughters, Erica Greenstone of Helmetta and Jessica Greenstone Winestone and her husband Rob of Burlington, MA; grandchildren Elliana and Samara Winestone; sisters Elaine Fromkin of East Brunswick and Marian Campisi of North Brunswick; sister-in-law Marilyn Barr of Philadelphia; and many nephews snd nieces. Susan was predeceased by her parents Ida and Julius Rand of Irvington, mother- and father-in-law Irma and Edward Greenstone of Irvington, and her brother-in-law Arnold Barr of Philadelphia.

 

Susan graduated from Irvington High School in 1962 and from Rutgers University at Newark in 1966. She went on to work as a Caseworker for the Essex County Welfare Board and later in her career as a Registrar and Program Coordinator at the National Transit Institute of Rutgers University. 

 

Above all, Susan loved spending time with her family, and especially adored her two granddaughters and her great nephew Ashton, who brought her so much joy and who also adored her. She was a long time, dedicated member of the Raritan Valley Chapter of Hadassah where she was a Vice President of Fundraising and a chairperson on many committees. She also volunteered for the East Brunswick Chapter of Deborah for many years, and was a longtime member of Highland Park Conservative Temple. Susan enjoyed theater, films, good food, and listening and singing along to her favorite artist, Neil Diamond, who she saw live in concert more times than she could keep track of. She went above and beyond to make people feel special and cared about, and she will be remembered lovingly for her warmth, empathy, and her gift for speaking and writing eloquently. 

 

Funeral services will be held graveside at Mount Lebanon Cemetery at 189 Gill Lane in Iselin, NJ on Tuesday, February 20 at 1:30 pm. 

For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Please no flower and plants accepted.
