Nathan Hindes passed away peacefully on June 21, 2022. He was 100 years old.
Born and raised in South River, the son of William and Rose Hindes, Nathan lived a full and accomplished life. After graduating from South River High school, Nathan attended Rutgers University. However, World War II interrupted his studies and he was stationed in Europe as part of the Army Signal Corps. When he returned, he completed his degree. After working briefly as a Ceramic Engineer, he joined his father’s business, the South River Waist and Dress Company. He ran the business for 37 years.
Nathan enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, talking about politics, and the world. He treasured the moments he spent with his family, especially when everyone gathered together at his vacation home in Vermont. He was one of the kindest and most generous people and he made every effort to get to know anyone whose path he crossed. His energy, vigor, and kindness were on display each and every day.
Nathan was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Sally Klein Hindes, and together they were dedicated to their family, friends, community, and each other. He is also predeceased by his brother, Philip Hindes, two sisters, Gertrude Hindes and Shirley Hindes Fried, and a son, Philip Hindes. He is survived and his life is celebrated by his sons, Paul Hindes and his wife, Sharon Hindes, Robert Hindes, and his wife, Amy O'Donnell, and a daughter, Jane Hindes Miller and her husband, Steven Miller, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
