Miriam “Mimi” Shein, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Metuchen on Tuesday January 22nd after a valiant but difficult battle with dementia. She was pre-deceased by her parents Molly (Segal) and Emmanuel Jaffe of the Bronx, her sister Lillian Kaplan of Harrison, NY; her husband Hartley Shein of New Brunswick, and her late life companion Sidney Schiffman. She is survived by her son Bruce Nadler of Highland Park, her daughter Sally Nadler of Piscataway, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
Mimi had a heart of gold, a bright and positive disposition, and the amazing ability to find the silver lining in any situation. She was born December 29, 1923 in Bronx, NY and worked as a bookkeeper from WWII until well into her 80’s. A longtime member of the Highland Park Conservative Temple & Congregation Anshe Emeth. she was active in local theatre, starring in many productions in East Brunswick and Highland Park, and loved the game of golf, playing well into her 90’s. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Services will be held at the Highland Park Conservative Temple - Congregation Anshe Emeth Synagogue, 201 S. 3rd Avenue, Highland Park, NJ 08904 at 11 am on Thursday January 24th, with the burial to follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. Shiva will be observed at her home in Metuchen, NJ through Monday January 28. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Highland Park Conservative Temple - Congregation Anshe Emeth or the Parker Adult Day Center, Highland Park, NJ.
