Miriam Luz Colon Malpica, 63, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was born in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico and came to Metuchen at the young age of 3. Her family lived in Metuchen for several years before moving to New Brunswick, where they spent many years. Miriam has lived the past 15 years in North Brunswick with her husband and her daughters.
Miriam was a devout Catholic and was a congregant and founder of Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church. She was the first secretary for the Puerto Rican Action and later went on to work for MCOC until her health began to fail.
Miriam was a family orientated person. She was described as a very sweet, loving and passionate lady. Miriam was the daughter of the late Taleo and Santa (Rodriguez) Malpica, she leaves behind her loving husband of 43 years, Jesus Colon, her beloved daughters Marlyn Colon and Elizabeth Colon Malpica, her cherished grandson, Jahsiel Florentino, her dear brother John Malpica and her sisters, Idalia, Nelida and Luny Malpica.
Visitation will take place at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ on Monday, November 14, 2016 from 5 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church, 75 Morris Street, New Brunswick, NJ. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick, NJ.
