Michael Midler

August 15, 1936 — February 12, 2023

Michael Midler, PhD, a retired Merck R & D Chemical Engineer and a beloved and loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully on Sunday, February 12 in his home in Monroe Township, N.J. He was 86 years old.



Michael was a person of strong loyalties--to Marcia, his wife of 62 years; to his children and grandchildren; to Merck, his employer of 41 years; to Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, where he worshipped and sang in the choir for 46 years; to Cornell University, where he earned undergraduate and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering, and where he set a Cornell record for the mile only 15 seconds behind the then world's record; and to a group of friends who were like family after 50 years. He loved living in Regency at Monroe for the past 18 years, starting the News and Views current events club there, and enjoying playing bridge with friends.



Michael is survived by his wife Marcia, his son Jonathan Herz-Midler (Denise), his daughter Sharon Midler (Aaron), and his daughter Jill Midler, who resides at Hunterdon Developmental Center. He is also survived by grandson Sam Herz-Midler, grandson Max Cotler (Rebecca), grandson Grant Cotler (Katie), nephew Paul Morenberg (Carrie), nephew Steven Morenberg (Heather Dunn) nephew Jimmy Bachman and nephew David Bachman.
