Mervin Joseph Dickinson, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 3019 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was born in Westerly, Rhode Island and lived in Denver , Colorado and Plainfield, New Jersey while growing up. During his married life, Mervin lived for 43 years in Franklin Park, New Jersey and for the past few months in Somerset, New Jersey.
Mervin received his Bachelor's of Science Degree from Rutgers University. He had studied Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering and City Planning. He was employed for many years with the City of New York as a Civil Engineer. Mervin loved Landscape Architecture and had designed his own property with bushes and scrubs and maintained it for many years. He was the Landscape Architect for Rutgers University as well.
Mervin ran in several of the New York City Marathons. When he no longer could run, Mervin became a member of the Marathon Committee. He was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architecture, the Road Runners Club, the Jane Austin Society, which he joined with his wife, Susan. He joined because of his interest in architecture and Jane Austin's brother' Naval Abilities and visiting ships. Mervin loved to sing, as a member of the Rutgers University Choir, he had the opportunity to sing at Carnegie Hall. He was a longtime member of the Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple Kol Emeth Choir.
He also served with the National Guard.
Mervin was predeceased by his parents Harmon and Ethel (Davis), and his survived by his beloved wife, Susan (Kuchinsky) Dickinson, his loving children, Edward "Ted" Dickinson, Adam Dickinson and his wife Nicole and Laurel and her husband Michael Schumer, his cherished grandchildren, Ari, Michael, Evan and Miranda Dickinson and Kaila and Gabrielle Schumer, his dear brother Al Dickinson and his wife Sherry and his dear sister Lois and her husband Robert Edwards.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at 11 am at the Anshe Emeth Memorial temple, 222 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Memorial contributions may be made to Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple or to the ALS Foundation.
