Mr. Mario Enrique Matias, 72, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his residence. He was born and raised in Monterey, Guatemala. Mario came to the United States in 1985 with his family and settled in Jersey City, NJ. After living in Jersey City, for about ten years, Mario and his wife, Virginia moved to Somerset, NJ. Fifteen years later, they moved to North Brunswick, NJ.
Upon moving to Somerset, Mario took a job as an environmental engineer with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He has been employed for 26 years and was planning on retiring after his 73rd birthday in February.
Mario was a very humble man, who always was helping others. He enjoyed soccer and cleaning his church. Mario loved his church,was a very active member and became a Deacon of the Church. In his spare time he enjoyed reading his Bible.
Mario had a "big heart", loved his country and instilled into his children to be hard workers.
Predeceased by his parents Alberto Matias and Cristina Rodriguez, his brother Carlos and his beloved wife Virginia (Santos) Matias, he leaves behind a his legacy in his children Mario A. (Norma), Patricia, Mario M. (Daniela), Manuel (Judy), Byron (Alicia) and Sergio (Kayla) Matias, his cherished grandchildren Fernando, David, Mario, Jose, Barbara, Joel Enrique, Jaylene, Manuel, Angela, Annaiz, Kayla, Kalia, Kylee, Brian, Alexsandra and Faith, his dear sisters and brothers Marta, Elder, Marina and Carmen.
visitation will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ from 5 - 7 pm. Funeral Service will begin on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Elmwood Cemetery, New Brunswick, NJ.
