Father Manuel Lorente-Medina, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at his residence in East Brunswick, NJ. Father Manuel was born on May 6, 1942 in Murcia, Spain to José and Ana Lorente; being baptized in the parish of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Murcia, Spain, on May 24, 1942.
After his graduation from high school, he entered the Major Seminary of San Fulgencio at age 19, where he studied Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained a priest on June 12, 1968, in Saint Andrew the Apostle, Murcia, Spain.
After his ordination he held the following pastoral positions:
- 1968-1971: Associate Pastor of the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption, Murcia, Spain.
- 1971-1975: Associate Pastor of the Parish of Saint Joseph, Murcia, Spain.
- 1975-1982: Pastor of Saint Anthony of Padua and of Saint Andrew Apostle, Murcia Spain.
- 1982-1989: Associate Pastor of El Sagrario and Pastor at Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Guayaquil, Ecuador.
- 1989-1996: Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, New Brunswick.
- 1996-1997: Associate Pastor of Saint John the Baptist, Archena, Murcia, Spain.
- 1997-1999: Pastor of Immaculate Conception, Mazarrón; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Mazarrón; Our Lady of the Rosary, Ramonete, Lorca, Spain, and Saint John the Baptist, Morata, Lorca, Spain.
- 1999-2002: Pastor of Saint Bartholomew, Murcia, Spain.
- 2002-2006: Pastor of Saint John the Baptist, Abanilla, Murcia, Spain.
- 2006-2007: Pastor of Our Lady of Remedies, Jumilla, Spain, and of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Abanilla, Spain.
- 2007-2008 Associate Pastor at Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Dumas, Texas.
- 2008 to the present day, Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, New Brunswick.
Father Manuel is survived by his brothers and sister Father José Lorente-Medina, Antonio Lorente-Medina, and Ana Lorente. They ask prayers for his soul.
Fr. Manuel Lorente´s body will be received at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 75 Morris Street, New Brunswick at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022. Public visitation will continue until 6:30 p.m. Fr. Raymond Nacarino will preside at the 7:00 p.m. Vigil Mass for a Priest.
The Most Reverend James F. Checchio, Bishop of Metuchen, will preside at the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12th, also at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Following the Mass, Father Manuel will receive Christian burial at Saint Peter´s Cemetery, New Brunswick, NJ.
