John D. Chiappetta

John D. Chiappetta, Sr. of North Brunswick, NJ passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Princeton Medical Center of Plainsboro, NJ. Born in Rende, Province of Cosenza, Italy, John came to the United States by himself at the age of 16 to stay with relatives in South River. He had been a resident of North Brunswick for over 65 years before moving. 

Mr. Chiappetta was a hard working and loyal employee. He was a man of old world charm, integrity, and honesty. From 1949-1964, he worked diligently as a presser for the South River Coat Co., South River and Bond Clothes, New Brunswick. He worked for over 60 years in many tailor shops and as a gas station attendant in the area. In 1965, he joined General Motors, becoming a welder, mechanic and painter in his 34 years with the company. John was very active in Local 595 at General Motors and soon became a Local 595 union representative. He also was instrumental in starting the General Motors Blood Bank.

After retiring, he became a part time employee with several of the local area funeral homes working as a driver, doorman, and greeter. He also drove for several area limousine services. Mr. Chiappetta drove for Johnson & Johnson Executives and dignitaries for several years.

John was a parishioner of the St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Roman Catholic Church, Parish of the Visitation, New Brunswick for over 60 years. He served as an usher and member of the church's parish council for many years. John was a member of the Msgr. John O’Grady; Knights of Columbus Council 6572 since 1974 and served several terms as Grand Knight. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights Assembly 664. Mr. Chiappetta was a double star attendee of the council. He was honored with a resolution from the Pope for his major fundraising activities on behalf of the Italian Earthquake Victims of 1980.

Son of the late Serafino and Teresa (Rovello) Chiappetta. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Maria and Rosario. He is survived by his sons Samuel and his wife Stefanie of Conway, SC, Rocco and his wife Sila of Sacramento, CA and John, Jr. of North Brunswick, NJ. Dearest brother of Orlando and Gabriel. Cherished Grandfather of Ann Marie and her husband Austin, Andrew, Gianna Marie, Julianna and her husband Christopher Farinola and Sylvia. Loving great grandfather of Frank Farinola and his long time Lady friend of 30 years, Elaine Falcone.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 9:00 AM in the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s of Mt. Virgin R.C. Church, 192 Sandford Street, New Brunswick, NJ. Entombment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel.
