John M. "Big John" Caladie, 70, passed away at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. He was born in Kingston, Luzerne County, PA and lived most of his life in New Brunswick.
"Big John", as he was known by his friends, was a graduate of St. Ladislaus Grammar School and New Brunswick High School. He also served as an altar boy at St. Ladislaus RC Church for many years. John was a congregant at Parish of the Visitation, (St. Mary of Mount Virgin RC Church), for many years.
He worked as a security Guard for Pinkerton Security, Colgate-Palmolive Company and lastly for Securitas. Prior to doing security work, John was a machinist for Parker and Seals Company,Pressman Toy Company in New Brunswick and John's Manville.
"Big John" was an avid bowler, played softball and enjoyed the comics. He also loved working on crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. In his younger years, John was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a volunteer at the ASPCA.
He loved to watch and cheer for his favorite sports teams the Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Dodgers and the New Jersey Devils.
John served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post #2319 and the American Legion Post #25 in Milltown, NJ and the East Brunswick Elks Lodge #2370.
Predeceased by his parents John and Antoinette (Hospodar) Caladie, his former wife Barbara in 1982, and most recently his loving wife Kathleen (Gramness) in April, 2018. John will be dearly missed by his daughters Christine Caladie, Toni Richardson and Katie Harris, his grandchildren Kevin Caladie, Reese Richardson, Ryan Richardson, Kayla Harris, Robbie Richardson and Andrea Harris, his great grandchildren Isabella and Roman and his brother Richard Caladie.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Gowen Funeral Home, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 5 at 10:30 am at the Parish of the Visitation, (St. Mary of Mount Virgin RC Church), Remsen Avenue, New Brunswick. Private Cremation and burial will follow.
