Joan Ilene (Dershowitz) Silver
Joan Ilene (Dershowitz) Silver, 65, passed away at her home with her family by her side on March 1, 2020. Her funeral was held March 8, at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, NJ. Joan was born in Jersey City, and raised in Springfield NJ. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and began her career in Atlanta where she taught special needs elementary students. She moved to Washington, DC and taught hearing-impaired children, earned her Masters’ Degree in Applied Behavioral Psychology, and worked for the Montgomery County, Md Human Rights Commission. In 1991 Joan moved to Kendall Park, Md where she worked with troubled youth at the Middlesex County Detention Center in North Brunswick, NJ. Joan loved to paint and produced dozens of oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings. Predeceased by her father Abraham (Sonny) Dershowitz, Joan is survived by her mother Diane Dershowitz, her husband, Jerry Silver, her children, Ally and Danny and her brother, Michael Dershowitz.
