James A. Dixon was born March 10, 1940 in Browntown, NJ to Sandy & Lizzie Dixon. He is one of eight children; brothers Bernice and Robert, sisters Dorothy “Dot”, Mildred “Millie”, Margaret Louise, Helen and Pearl. James attended Browntown Elementary as a youth and was a member of Spring Valley Church in Morganville, NJ.
In 1970, James met the love of his life, Carolyn, and they were married July 25th, 1972. James and Carol lived in Tinton Falls for over 20 years while raising their three children, Lauri, Jimmy & Billy. In 1999, they moved to Jackson, NJ where he resided up until his passing on March 15, 2022. He and his wife Carol were former members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Tinton Falls, NJ.
James enjoyed hunting and fishing, raising dogs, women’s basketball, horse races, and spending time with family and friends. His favorite women’s college team was the Rutgers Lady Knights. Fondly known as PopPop, he spent summers hosting Camp PopPop with his grandchildren. He loved cars, listening to the Blues, and watching country westerns and boxing.
James is predeceased by his loving wife Carol, parents, siblings Dot, Bernice, Robert, Margaret Louise and Helen. He is survived by daughter Laura Friday of North Brunswick, and sons James Dixon Jr. of South Brunswick and William Dixon of Jackson, NJ. Sisters Pearl Dixon and Mildred Jeffcoat, grandchildren Toneisha, James, William, Kanye, Kendall, Miley, Joshua, Saniyah, Dajah, and Harmony. Two daughters-in-law and a grandson-in-law. Godson, Steven Dixon, nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services for James A. Dixon Sr. will be Friday, March 25, 2022 at Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, NJ. Viewing will begin at 10 am, followed by services, burial at Franklin Memorial Park and food & refreshments.
