Irene "Rene" Dworeck, 93, of Highland Park, NJ died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at her residence. A remarkable and influential woman, she was a long-term civic activist. Rene had served the Borough of Highland Park as a member of the Borough Council, Past President of the Borough Council, member of the Commission on the Handicapped, Chairperson of the Commission on Aging, Community Development Block Grant committee and the Highland Park Housing Authority. She also served diligently for three decades as a member of the Board of Directors of the NJ Institute for Disabilities (formerly the Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County). She was honored by the association with a "Life Membership" in recognition of her outstanding service. She was also devoted to Deborah Hospital where she served as New Brunswick Chapter President; and had also been President of the Highland Park Lions Club Auxiliary. Mrs. Dworeck also worked as a legislative Aide to both Assemblyman David Schwartz and Assemblyman Jerry Green where she dealt with constituent concerns. Born in Reading, England on September 6, 1919 she met her beloved husband, Louis, while he was serving in the Army. They were married in London in 1945 and she came to America with other war brides on the Queen Mary. She and her husband lived in New York City before moving to Highland Park over 60 years ago. She was most passionate about her family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis in 1989. Loving mother of Bonnie and her husband Stewart Krentzman of River Vale, NJ; adored grandmother of Ross Krentzman and Jeffrey Krentzman and his wife Jessica of Mahwah, NJ and cherished great-grandmother of Abigail Krentzman.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10am Friday, January 11 at the Highland Park Conservative Temple/Congregation, Anshe Emeth, corner of Third Ave. & Benner St., Highland Park. Interment will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosencrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, because she was a 9 year survivor; Visiting Nurse Hospice Group, 176, Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ 07701, due to the compassionate care given to her or the NJ Institute for Disabilities, 10 Oak Drive, Edison, NJ 08837 because she was a Board Member. Shiva will be observed on Friday and Saturday evening at her residence. Shiva will continue at the residence of Bonnie and Stewart Krentzman on Sunday.
