Irene E Denning

Irene Denning (nee Nielsen) passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023, surrounded by family. She was 91 years old. Irene was the devoted wife of Anthony Denning for 48 years, the beloved daughter of Finola and Einar Nielsen, and the loving mother of Catherine, James, Sharon, and Suzanne. Born in Toronto, Irene graduated St. Joseph's College School in 1950 and began her career as a legal secretary, leading her to travel to Bermuda and the United States. A loving wife and mother, Irene raised four children in Somerset. As her children grew, Irene returned to college and graduated with distinction from Douglass College in 1981. Irene and her husband Anthony were active for many years in local politics. Irene was an avid gardener, a talented seamstress, a gracious hostess to family and friends, and loved to read. She took great joy in her four grandchildren and especially enjoyed chances to travel with them. Irene will be greatly missed by family and friends, for whom she made so many wonderful memories. Irene is survived by her children Catherine Denning (Christopher Walsh), James Denning (Miwa Messer), Sharon Denning (Seth Lipton), and Suzanne Confer (Greg Confer); her four grandchildren Declan, Lila, Owen, and Liam; her sister Sharon Terry (Robert) and nieces Catherine, Maureen, Lauren, and Colleen and their families; her nieces and nephews Patricia Sisney, James McGevna, Jennifer McGevna McGrady, and William McGevna and their families. She is predeceased by her husband Anthony, her brother Brian, and her nephew Robert Terry.
