HERBERT LOUIS SILINSKY
December 29, 1928-November 6, 2016.
Herbert, age 87, passed away peacefully last Saturday.
Born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ, Herb spent the majority of his life living in the Los Angeles area. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Louisville, and his post-graduate degree in Pharmacy from University of Toledo. As a Lieutenant in the Army, Herbert served for 2 years in the 1950s with the Medical Corp as part of the Army of Occupation in Germany. After returning from Germany, Herbert and his wife, Miriam, moved to California, started a family, and Herb began his 45-year career as a pharmacist. Always known as “Doc” to his customers in Pacoima, Herb first worked in, then owned several pharmacies in the area.
Herb’s unending curiosity about life, thirst for knowledge, and love of travel to far away lands enriched his life, and the lives of those who knew him. When Herb first heard of the Masada discovery, he knew he had to be a part of history, and went on to participate in the 1960’s archeological dig at Masada.
In 1996 Herb met his current wife, Lauren and they married in 2002. Lauren shared his love of travel and, in their 20 years together, they conquered the world, traveling to over 50 of the 70 countries Herbert experienced throughout his life.
Surviving are his wife Lauren, his daughter Judith and his son Mark.
