Advertising Executive, Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather
Gordon Friedman, of Green Brook, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 28. He was 92 years “young”. Born in New Brunswick, Gordon grew up in South Brunswick and Highland Park and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1947. He then attended Rutgers University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1951. He was a lefty pitcher for both HPHS and Rutgers baseball, and was scouted by the then Brooklyn Dodgers. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, where he was a First Lieutenant specializing in Aerial Photography based out of Sumter, South Carolina. Gordon was a former member of Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple and the Elks Club in New Brunswick.
Gordon founded his own advertising agency, Gordon Friedman Advertising, and was a principal of Friedman - Latreille Advertising in Piscataway. He later worked for the Caldwell Progress as an advertising executive. An avid METS, JETS and NETS fan, he especially loved watching Rutgers football and playing tennis.
Gordon was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. He is survived by his first wife, Debra Newman Lotz of Green Brook and his current wife, Mildred Friedman of Monroe Township. He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Esther Friedman, his brother Phillip Friedman, his niece Ferne Friedman and his second wife, Marilyn Friedman, of West Orange and Toms River. He is also survived by his children, Jamie Friedman and his wife Orli Bar Hai, of Kibbutz Hatzerim, Israel, Randi Friedman and Dan Friedman, both of Green Brook, four loving grandchildren, Shir, Gefen and his fiancé Ester, Rebecca and Ashley, his nephew Michael Friedman, his wife Francesca and their son Joey of Delray Beach, Florida, and former sister in law, Hannah Friedman Lipton, of Pompano Beach, Florida. His family meant the world to him.
Graveside services will be held on Monday May 31 at noon at Washington Cemetery in South Brunswick, and viewable by Zoom at Meeting ID: 817 8331 6414 Passcode AEMT. Arrangements will be handled by Crabiel Funeral Home, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick. Shiva services will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7-9 at the Friedman Family home in Green Brook, masks requested, and at the home of Jamie Friedman on Kibbutz Hatzerim, Israel on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday June 1 – 3 from 4 PM to 8 PM Israeli Daylight Time.
