Mr. Eugene Wang, Z”L, was born in 1938 in Beth Israel Hospital in New York, NY. He passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Princeton Medical Center. He was 82 years young! From Manhattan, he moved to Rego Park as a newlywed and then to Briarwood, Queens for a bigger apartment when his second daughter was born. He moved to Middletown, NJ in 1970 followed by Holmdel, NJ and settled in Monroe Township in 2007 in the Stonebridge Community.
Gene (as he was affectionately called by almost everyone), grew up on the Lower East Side and loved sharing stories about this mischievous time in his life. He went to Stuyvesant High School graduating in 1954 at the age of 16. After making a promise to his future father-in-law that he would complete his college studies, he graduated from City College and Pace University after many years. He became a CPA and worked as an accountant at a small firm. He started his own practice which he enjoyed for many years, both inside his home office and in an office he opened in Hazlet, NJ. He truly loved and cared about his clients and formed lifelong friendships with many of them. Those who could not afford to pay for his services baked him apple pies.
He enjoyed being part of a card and Mah Jong group called the Fly-by-Nights that got together every 6 weeks for many years. He loved Atlantic City and gambling, horse racing (even owning harness racehorses at one point named Little Andy and Dennis Hanover), all sports, especially watching baseball, listening to the news and watching the stocks around the clock and being with his family. He enjoyed being a snowbird spending winters in Coconut Creek and Boynton Beach, Florida for many happy years with great groups of friends and family. When it was too hot in Florida, he spent summers back in NJ living close to his beloved children and grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them and loved phone calls and visits to hear about their lives.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cecile Ellen Wang. Surviving are his 2 daughters and son, Phyllis & Barry and Andrea, 5 grandchildren, Rebecca & Jonathan, Sarah, Sam and Joshua and 1 great grandson, Lev, born exactly 4 weeks ago.
Gene/Dad/Papa will be sorely missed. May his memory be a blessing.
