Mrs. Esther Pena-Bocanegra, 86, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at St. Peter's University Hospital. She was born and raise in Chiclaya, Peru and come to the United States in 1982 settling in Highland Park, NJ. Later moving to New Brunswick.

Esther was a paraprofessional with the New Brunswick School System for many years.She also worked at Paul Robeson Annex and the Daycare MRCEA, which was through the Puerto Rican Action Board and Catholic Charities in New Brunswick,

She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and loved to cook. In her spare time Esther enjoyed music and dancing.

Predeceased by her parents Carlos Pena and Trinidad Saavedra, her sister Dora Pena and her son Abel Alvarado, she is survived by her loving husband, Jose Francisco Bocanegra, her beloved children, Jack, Carlos and Natasha Alvarado and Juan Bocanegra, his cherished 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, her dear brother and sister, Carlos and Maria Pena.

Visitation will take place at the Crabniel Parkwest Funeral Chapel. 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 5 - 9 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be said at Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church, 75 Morris Street, New Brunswick at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick.
