Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Horvath
Elizabeth died peacefully on Sunday January 15, 2023 at the age of 91. Born Erzsébet Lábár April 15, 1931, she was the eldest of five children to László Lábár and Erzsébet Szilágyi in Bihar-Diószeg, Erdély (Transylvania).
Elizabeth arrived with her husband and first child Maria to the USA in 1951. She worked as a homemaker and restaurant owner along with her husband throughout the 1950’s and mid 1960’s. She later became an Occupational Therapist for the State Hospital at Greystone Park, NJ and a Nursing Assistant thereafter at several nursing facilities until her retirement in 1993. She lived independently at Elm Court in Princeton, NJ after the loss of her husband in 1989.
As a wife and mother, Elizabeth was pre-deceased by her husband, Ferenc (Frank), brothers, László, Imre (Jim), István and Son-in-Law Joseph Kohalmi.
Elizabeth is survived by her children Maria Kohalmi, Frank Horvath, jr. (and wife Dawn), Dr. István Horváth (and wife Dr. Brigitte E. Mihályfi), and Elizabeth (and husband Robert Gagliardi). She is also survived by her grandchildren Andréa (and husband JohnVan Slyke Summers, III), Lisa (and husband Kevin McBeth), Joseph R. (and wife Dr. Alicia Kopicki), Frank, III (and wife Jennifer), Barbara Hall, Dawn (and husband Matthew Starkes), Susan (and husband Marino Olivares-Cardenas), István M., Katalin M., László G. P., Chelsey, Katlin, Robert; brother Gábor in Hungary; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 19, 2023, Saint Ladislaus RC Church, 215 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
