Elaine G. Katz
East Brunswick Township - Elaine G. Katz passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023, after a short illness. She was 89.
Elaine was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. She was a registered nurse, having received her training at Barnert Hospital in Paterson, NJ. Shortly after graduating, she quickly became a lead nurse and was responsible for running one of the floors. One of the senior nurses at the hospital set her up on a blind date with one of her son’s childhood best friends, Stanley Katz of Passaic, NJ. And the rest, as they say, is history! Elaine and Stanley married in 1955 and later moved to Franklin Township, NJ before finally settling in East Brunswick, NJ in 1963. Elaine retired from nursing in 1960 but never missed a chance to tell the nurses how they should be doing things properly whenever a member of the family was in the hospital.
Elaine and Stanley were active in advocating for and helping to start special education programs in both the East Brunswick public school system and the Anshe Emeth Temple in New Brunswick, NJ, as their son Howard had special needs.
Elaine was a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. Her primary focus was always on the well-being of her family, and she always attended their school functions and other major milestones. She was always supportive of her family and friends and often became a “second mother” to many of Stanley’s graduate students.
She is loved and survived by her husband of 68 years Dr. Stanley Katz (Ph.D.), her sons and their families: Dr. Jack Katz (Ph.D.), his wife Elyse and daughter Melissa (South Brunswick, NJ), and Dr. Joseph Katz (Ph.D.), his wife Catherine and children Josh and Sarah (Cary, NC). She was predeceased by her son Howard Katz in July 2020. The funeral will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ under the direction of the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hackensack Meridian Hospital Old Bridge Medical Center and Vitality Hospice through Roosevelt Care Center at Old Bridge for the love and compassionate care given to Elaine.
