Charlotte Choper Weiss Md

Charlotte Choper Weiss MD was born (Charlotte Choper) on May 10, 1927 in Highland Park, NJ. She died on February 22, 2022, in her home with her family at her bedside in Philadelphia, PA at the age of 94. She attended Highland Park Public Schools, graduating from Highland Park High School in 1944, then graduating in the top of her class at Cornell University. She applied to 10 medical schools and was accepted to one- University of Buffalo- where she was one of only 4 women in her class. There she met the love of her life- Hyman Weiss. They married in 1950 and settled in her home town where Charlotte practiced as a psychiatrist and consultant for the Highland Park and East Brunswick School Systems. She was also an active volunteer with Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County. In 1980, she was honored as Highland Park High School Alumna of the Year. In retirement, Charlotte and Hy traveled the world to pursue Charlotte’s interest in volcanology before relocating to Philadelphia, PA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hyman Weiss DDS, and her son, Jeffrey Weiss MD. She is survived by her daughter in law Kenna Weiss of Philadelphia, PA, son William Weiss MD PhD (Sandra Braverman) of San Francisco, CA, daughter Sarah Book MD (Michael Book MD) of Johns Island, SC, grandchildren Jonathan Weiss, Jeremy Weiss, Sophia Weiss, Jacob Weiss, George Book MD (Alyson Book), Sam Book, Anna Book, and great granddaughter Adelaide Rose Book – born February 15, 2022. Mother and baby are doing well.
