Bienvenido Faxas, 84, passed away peacefully into eternal rest with his family at his side on Tuesday evening, February 15, 2022 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Born and raised in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, he came to the United States on November 20,1960. Upon arriving in New York City, he met and married the late Digna Diaz Popa, and welcomed their daughter Lillian Faxas in 1966. The Faxas family lived throughout the boroughs of Manhattan, Bronx and Queens, before moving to North Brunswick, NJ, over twenty-one years ago.
While living on the island of the Dominican Republic, Bienvenido (also known as “Benny”) worked at the Mercado Modelo in Santo Domingo. He shared his love of baseball by serving as an English language interpreter and Radio Broadcaster for the American (Baseball) League. Upon arriving in New York City, Bienvenido was employed by D'Agostino's Supermarket as a Produce and Dairy Manager. Lastly, he served as a Mail Clerk for New York Life Insurance, finally retiring in 2002.
Predeceased by his parents Candido and Casilda Faxas, Bienvenido leaves behind to cherish his legacy, his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Alejandro Saturria. His loving grandchildren, Vanessa Mansharamani and her husband Harish, Carmelina Saturria and Mario Matias, Gabriella Saturria and step-grandson Juan Zapata. His cherished great grandchildren, Alyssa and Lucas Mansharamani. His dear cousin Pedro Duran, and God Daughter Elizabeth Sanzone—her husband Paul, and daughter AnnMarie Sanzone. Also, not to be forgotten his grand dog and most faithful companion, “Champ”.
Visitation will take place at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 2-5 pm. Funeral Mass will be said Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10 am at St. Mary's of Mount Virgin RC Church - Parish of the Visitation, on the corner of Sandford Street and Remsen Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. Entombment at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick.
