Abraham V. Figueroa, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 29, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born in the San Juan area in Puerto Rico and has lived in New Brunswick for the past 70 years.
Abraham was a painter for the Ford Motor Company for many years retiring in 1989. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #980.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church in New Brunswick.
Abraham was known to many as the "candy man" as he walked through town giving out his little candy bags to everyone. He also enjoyed feeding the birds, cooking for his friends & family, playing the pick-it, watching the Mets and Yankees and playing Dominoes and BINGO with his friends and wife.
Abraham was described as the neighborhood Pop-Pops, who raised all the neighborhood children. He was a nurturing and loving man, who helped all, especially his grandchildren who, up to his dying day, would be given $20 and told this money was for food, gas and ice cream or to buy a toy for his great grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, first wife Juanita Lopez Figueroa, brothers, sisters and his daughter, Marisol, sons Jimmy, Nardy, & Bori. Abraham leaves behind his loving children, Stefanie, Edwin, Abraham, Eric, David and Louis, his cherished fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who he was especially proud of.
Visitation will take place at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ from 6 - 9 pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. Funeral Mass at 10 am on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church, 75 Morris Street, New Brunswick, NJ. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick, NJ.
